Care New England Health System (CNE) was formed in February 1996 by founding members Butler Hospital, Kent Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital. In February 1999, the Care New England Wellness Center opened in Warwick, RI. In June 1999, Kent County Visiting Nurse Association became a member of CNE, changing it's name to VNA of Care New England. In 2000, HealthTouch, Inc., a private duty nursing service, joined the division.

Community Guide to Mental Health
In March 2006, Butler Hospital created a user-friendly Community Guide to Mental Healthcare in Rhode Island. The guide lists treatment providers throughout the state by city or town and includes their contact information, types of insurance they accept, and their treatment specialty areas. It also contains descriptions of the different types of treatment providers, as well as overviews of common mental illnesses, their symptoms and treatments.
